Johnny Skilsaw

I ran across this interesting band while surfing the internet. After reading the About Us page at the site, Johnny Skilsaw has had several musicians contributing in their way to a band which revolves around Jay Wasco. After watching several unbelievable videos at the site, I was interested in learning more about Johnny Skilsaw ( Jay Wasco in particular ). I read the about us page, which tells a story of the band almost releasing several albums. Each album was postponed for one reason or another, and ultimately shelved and never released. At least until Jay decided to embrace the power of the internet and release them for free.

I'm not sure how to describe the music I've listened to on the site. The artistic range is certainly wide for Jay. His video of Rocket Man ( Elton John cover ) doesn't embrace some of the industrial sounds the band created for the "Blood Lead" LP, like Industry Swine, or the mellow sounds of Jay's custom slide guitar ( most likely his Egotar ) in Sardonia. Much of the unique sounds from this (usually) three-man-band comes from such custom instruments.

You see, the interesting part of all of this is Jay's ability to multitask. Jay plays the bass guitar at the same time he plays the keyboard ( or the slide guitar, or the --[ insert duct taped instrument here ]-- ), and sings. View a few of the videos I've linked to at the top to see Jay in action. I've listened to the songs on both unreleased albums, and several are very good. I'd say more than the average number of good songs you would get on any over-produced, over-rated, over-priced mainstream albums. And considering the price, I'd say all the songs are definitely worth the money!

Sadly, I don't think you will be buying any of these songs in your local music store ( you do remember where the store is, right? ). Although the music is available online ( Along with some other "musical" oddities from the creative mind of Jay Wasco known as The Flying Shelsons ).

And if you want some examples of Jay's ability to play and sing and play at the same time, check out his cover of the Beatles, "Something", or the other covers he performs with his Egotar.

If you have a little time, at the very least, check out Jay's ability to multitask. If you have more time, then check out the music of Johnny Skilsaw.
