Your child may be infringing on a patent!

United States Patent: 6,368,227 was approved on April 9, 2002. The patent was awarded to Steven Olson ( 337 Otis Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104 ) for an alternate method of swinging on a swing by using a side-to-side motion rather than the standard forward-backward motion. I remember swinging this way when I was young, but luckily I wasn't infringing on this patent (I havn't swung side-to-side for several years now). You should notify your children not to swing side-to-side, because it may result in a lawsuit from the inventor.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about this. I know it's been out since 2002, but you never know when the inventor will begin legal action to prevent children from stealing his hard earned invention!

BTW: According to the patent, there is an official name for swinging side-to-side. The following is an excerpt from the official patent recorded in the US Patent Office:

"Lastly, it should be noted that because pulling alternately on one chain and then the other resembles in some measure the movements one would use to swing from vines in a dense jungle forest, the swinging method of the present invention may be referred to by the present inventor and his sister as "Tarzan" swinging. The user may even choose to produce a Tarzan-type yell while swinging in the manner described, which more accurately replicates swinging on vines in a dense jungle forest. Actual jungle forestry is not required.

Licenses are available from the inventor upon request."
