Harris County Hurricane Evacuation Chart

I'm including the HC Hurricane Evacuation Chart here because www.hcoem.com seems to be overloaded.

I live about 1 mile north of the area listed as needing evacuation if a category 4-5 hits, so we're probably going to bug out before Rita makes landfall.

It looks like Rita is going to hit between Houston and Corpus Christi, so rather than going west to San Antonio, we're going to take our chances going Northeast towards the Jasper, Lufkin, Woodville area. We'll try to get a hotel room first, but if that doesn't work, we've got our pop-up. As a worse case, I've got family in Woodville, and friends in Jasper.

If Rita decides to follow us, I can run all the way to Arkansas if necessary. But I'd rather be as close as possible so I can get back quickly. Since most evac routes move people North, I may be able to beat traffic by heading East. The same applies when we are returning. Coming to Houston from the East side should be easier than fighting traffic on the North side.

I'll try and update the blog if more info becomes available.
